Artist Statement
My work sits at the crossroads of nostalgia and critique. Drawing on the familiar forms of action figures, toys, and mass-produced collectibles, I create sculptural works that look like they belong in a toy aisle but aren’t meant to be opened or played with. These works tell stories loaded with social, political, or cultural commentary that reveals itself through irony, dark humor, and biting sarcasm.
By using the visual language of childhood, I invite viewers into a false sense of comfort. Beneath the bright, glossy surfaces and playful forms, however, are narratives that speak to the absurdity, contradiction, and hypocrisy of modern life. From employee exploitation and corporate greed to white supremacy, mass incarceration, and systemic inequality, my work toys with serious issues—literally.
I’m interested in how humor disarms us, how satire can slip through our defenses, and how a bright scene and a fake smile can sometimes say more than a manifesto. These pieces are meant to provoke a double-take, a laugh, and maybe—if I’ve done my job—a lingering discomfort.
